The late Isabelle Atwood left her home and farm at 624 Wormwood Hill Road in Mansfield to Joshua’s Trust. There will be an on-site public auction of her large collection of antiques on October 5th. It is a beautiful and historic property and will provide an opportunity for the Trust to move its headquarters and create space for educational programs, displays and special exhibits and meetings.
Moving the headquarters to the Wormwood Hill Road property will require a zone change and a special permit, which might be a problem for you or I, but I expect it to be a breeze for Rudy Favretti, Joshua’s vice president for historic properties and a former member of Mansfield’s Planning & Zoning Commission and local history expert.
The contents of the home, barn and outbuildings will be auctioned October 5th during an on-site old fashioned auction under tents at the property. All items will be sold unreserved. The highly anticipated auction is likely to bring thousands of dollars to the Trust for use in maintaining the Atwood Farm, funding its future operation and benefitting the Trust for years to come. Joshua’s Trust currently has 4,000 acres under protection in Connecticut, either by ownership or by easement.
Isabelle, an avid antiques collector, lived in the home her entire life.
The house, barn and outbuildings were home to a generational collection of American antiques, including collector pieces, Windsor chairs, tavern tables, Empire & Victorian furniture, Oriental rugs, oil lamps, quilts, textiles, books and much more. See details of the auction. Preview days are October 3rd and 4th.
In other Trust news, the annual fundraising concert will feature Rani Arbo, a Connecticut folk group.
The concert will be held on October 6th at 4 pm at Ashford’s Knowlton Hall. Listen to a track. Refreshments will be available beginning at 3:30 pm. Tickets to the event are $25 for members, $30 for non-members and proceeds benefit the Trust conservation activities. Tickets at the door but you can purchase ahead of time as well by sending a check payable to Joshua’s Trust and mailing to: Joshua’s Trust Fall Concert, P.O. Box 4, Mansfield CT 06250.
